How Bots Attack Streaming Services
Streaming subscriptions are set to generate $108.5 billion in revenue in 2024. Predictably, streaming accounts are now a major target for criminals.
Throughout June 2024, Netacea’s Threat Intel Center monitored over 2,000 criminal marketplaces selling stolen streaming subscriptions and found:
- Over 340,000 stolen accounts for sale across over 1,500 listings
- Over 700 listings by criminals promising an unlimited supply of streaming accounts
- Stolen streaming accounts selling on average for 27.5% of their legitimate price
With these shocking figures in mind, this report investigates how criminals use bots to automate high-volume account fraud. We break down the stages of each attack according to the BLADE Framework, as well as the impact such attacks have on streaming businesses and their customers.
Finally, we evaluate traditional solutions and explain why full-breadth bot protection across all login entry points is essential for streaming services.
